I got the cap that goes on a 3/8 ratchet and it works good no plroblems at all. Got it from advanced auto parts for like $5. Next time have the wrench or put a k&n filter on there with the 1" nut on the end.

You can not impact the threads for the oil filter or nipple with the screwdriver unless you insert it at the base of the filter. Many of the filters out there have very thin outer cases and if the filter is installed too tightly(usual stealership/express oil change service fiasco) even a strap/chain/cup style wrench will not remove the filter.
And if you only get the screwdriver thru one side of the filter, you just pull it out slightly and then just tap it thru the other side, not real rocket science to figure that one out.

I use my strong hand...
i have this tool, where its like plyers but huge, and it has teeth on it so that when you grab the tool it locks on and you just turn, pretty good tool.
And remember HAND TIGHT only, so you can take it off next time lol
I got the triple claw wrench. It got the damn thing off, thankfully.
It wasn't as steady as I expected. It tightens when you turn it counter-clockwise but when you click it back clockwise, it loosens and falls off the filter. I had to use two hands which was a lil bit of a hassle. Only had enough room to loosen it 3/4 inch at a time.
That's why K&N Filters are so win. 1" nut welded to the back of it for easy removal
I just reach on up ther with my right hand and take it right off, just like opening a jar of pickles!
