your clutch disk may have puked a spring out and its stuck in there not letting you disengage the clutch to get it into gear...real talk
ok. so I DID get the car up and running. come to find out the other end of the shift cables was not connected(somehow the cotter pin backed itself out and wasnt connected, hence the free floating feeling in shifter.
but now, back to my original problem i was having,
its not shifting into 1st or 2nd . its not even letting me go to the left to shift into 1st or 2nd. it feels like something is tight in there and wont let me even try to shift into 1st or 2nd
can anyone help out with input? thanks again

Pull the center console cover and visually make sure the shifter in the dash is not being restricted, also verify that the shifter on the trans is not hitting anything.
Is this occuring with the engine on or off or both?

Yep what Talon said. I had a similar problem at one point and the shifter cables had come off the Neuspeed short shifter I had installed a while back.
