Happened to mine couple months ago.. I smacked a curb pretty hard and all my electrical would surge in and out, then finally out.. Including my cluster. It was a plug on the back of my alt that went bad. I'm not saying this is your problem, but if all else fails, keep it in mind. I would do some googling and see if anyone else has had this problem. The only other thing I can think of is something controlling the needle gave out, which I'm sure you would have to swap out the cluster.. Good Luck!

I would pull the cluster, find the wire for the tach and verify that it is receiving a signal at the cluster before you assume that the cluster is bad

Buy a CTR one, I seen one on craigslist for 150$. It had like 25K miles or something.

Has to be an electrical short, did you give the top dash a good fist? I had a light that was out due to the electical (back dash light) and I would have to give the dash a few love taps from time to time.
