Keep the same size as the factory tubing. If you go bigger, it creates turbulence through that section of the exhuast and actually slows things down defeating the purpose of the midpipe.
Ok....I figured out which cheap mod I would go with first.
I'm going to get a mid pipe. I think I can just have the guys at the local muffler shop put it on. I've heard people quote prices on EPhatch like ($100 bucks).
Now the big question is...we all know that our muffler is a free flow muffler so I don't want to replace that.
What size midpipe should I go with? I've heard guys say go with a
2inch pipe....2.5inch pipe.
What would you guys go with and why?

You lost me there....I'm new to being a wrench monkey.
I wouldnt recommend going larger than 2 1/4 mendrel bent, or 2 1/2 crush bent. if you want the sound similar to stock, get a resonator, if you want a nice exhaust tone go without. HTH.
I'm only concerened with performance...sound means nothing to me at this stage of the game.
2 1/4 mendrel bent pipe without resonator, any questions :)?Originally posted by Zero Three Si

Thanks!
You think it should be about 100 bucks?
mandrel bends, NO. But crushed bends Yes.
Can somebody explain the difference between mandrel bent and crushed bent?
Mandrel bent tubing is the same diameter throughout the entire bend where as crush bent tubing gets smaller around the bend and the inside the pipe. A lot of placed do not have mandrel benders because they are $$$$$. Here's a couple pics to show you there difference.
Mandrel bent is obviously better.
i got 2.25 crush. we cant really use much more than that as the fact that even a crush 2.25 more that doubles flow capacity, that and 2.25 is the factory inlet/outlet size
How big of a difference did you notice when you got the new pipe?Originally posted by rs_1101

when i had the pipe alone as my only mod i could tell a definite gain in top end, but it seemed like i lost a slight bit of torque. it would still chirp into 2nd gear tho. i recently did the hondata airbox mod and my car flies. i raced a 99 ex with the whole rice kit goin on, i gave him a car lengt head start and still killed him in a qm by like 2-3 car lengths.. without redlining
