yep the internals of the a4 are different from the a1, i think its the pistons not sure though. The a1 has a better flowing head than the a4.
is there any difrence beetween the a4 and the a1???

the k24a4 rods are WEAK! but if ur gonna build the motor then get the a4 block and save some $$$ cause the block itself is the same, its the moving parts that are differenet. the pistons, rods, and then like said above, the a1 head flows better.
The pistons on the A4 have a "horn" on them that will not allow the use of any other head. Here is a pic comparing the TSX piston and K24A4 piston in the top pic and the bottom pic are Ultralite/WisecoK24 and K24A1 piston and rods.

I may be wrong but I think the a4 has some material that prevents the insertion of a k20a2 oil pump. I guess it can be removed though, not sure how hard it is.
K24A4 head only, unless an extra thick head gasket is used.

thanks dude! thats all i really wanted to know thats how im gonna do it cus im building it regardless... instead off spending around $3k for a tsx drop in id rather spend 800 for an a4 long block and build it up some with the $$ i have originally to buy the tsx motor ya dig?? its around $2200 extra
so without a thick head gasket you cant run any other head on the a4?
Wouldn't you lose compression with a thicker head gasket, especially an extra thick one?
The horn/s are those bumps on the left and right of the piston right?
So you could swap the pistons if you wanted to swap heads, im assuming.
If you swapped with pistons of the same compression but without the horns, you wouldnt need to change anything else right?
Sorry for all the questions, im thinking about getting a k24a4 cause theres a local guy here tryin to get rid of one for 650.
is it just me or has the price for a new k24a1 risen in the least couple weeks than a k24a4. It doesn't make any sense. You would think the A1 would be less expensive.
Although now with the new engines honda has come out with... k24z1, z3, blah... kinda makes me wonder if i should hold off just alittle bit to see what numbers these throw down and then make decision. That new accord engine putting 190hp is tempting.... but then again, I just want a 12hr max down time.
Would anybody know if the **new** general assembly block and head come with everything included (water pump, oil pump, timing chain)?
And what the hell is the difference between UK and JPN built? One is DOT and the other isnt. Does this really matter? Considering out ep3's were built in the UK... should I be looking for a UK engine?
a1 motor costs more due to less modification to make a frank and type s oil pump
u gotta be able to find a k24a2 for less than 3000, i can get for 1800 here in canada......
The K24A2 is generally a fair chunk of change less than a K20A2 at most salvage yards. But as the popularity of the K24 goes up for rebuilds and swaps, the availability will drop and price will skyrocket for all K24 variants. As it is right now, there are certain size Kseries bearings that are out of stock, and are on back-order from Japan with no resupply date.
