8K would be some what safe 8.5k is pushin to the limit. The crank and rods are weak.

i would say 8k should be the limit, and that is with an upgraded valve train. the stock valve train wont take too many passes spinning that fast.
edit: doh....just saw the Z1 head as i hit submit. guess i should read in more detail...lol
The time and cost of swapping heads isnt worth it, unless you change the A3 internals as well IMHO. R&Ring the head is not a quick job. It also will not produce the same whp as a typeS either(lower compression on the A3) and you will need Kpro.

ah gotcha, how long would it take? im going to be doing a k24a1 head swap onto my a3...im not a complete mechanical noob...ive done/helped with swaps before

I also have a jr blower pushin 8lbs its got some pull. if I blow up the motor oh well just trying to get through the auto x season.
