i made my own with no voltage stabilizer. smoothed the idle a bit, and it did away with my headlight flickering when I use my power windows. on k-series.com theres a good dyi on how to do it. they guy who did the write up also is selling the kits premade, but I made mine for around 20 bucks

Voltage stablizers are just a series of capacitors whose job it is to smooth out the spikes in the electrical system. Users have reported anything from MPG gains to smoothness of acceleration and more.

In my experience the Grounding Kit + Voltage Stabilizer (which can all be had from ebay for dirt cheap) dropped my idle to a rock solid 900 and stopped the light dimming when I used my windows. Other than that, I didnt notice much.

I did a write up for how to install your own kit here:

very nice, i built the exact same kit with all the same grounds. same results, lower smoother idle, and my lights don't dim. not sure what how big a benefit it really is, but it was fun to build

I also made my own ground kit back in the day. It was the first mode I did to the car and it was pretty fun as well cause you have the ability to make it look very clean, and can chose how and where you'd like to run your own wires.
