    i want to deaden

but i have very little $ and never done it before.

    i hear great things about

    www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

    and

    www.secondskinaudio.com/

but i'm not sure what i should do and how much material i'll need.

    bare minimum: doors?

    doors and floor? $$
doors and floor and hatch? $$$
doors and floor and hatch and roof? $$$$$$ (forget it)

currently only components in the front doors (stock locations) and perhaps a small sub in the hatch.

I used the Fatmat Rattletrap. I got it from Dalfen Auto Supply in Oakville. Last weekend I put it on everything, the doors, hatch, roof, floor and it does make a difference. When I shut the doors it sounds a lot more solid and it sounds dead inside the car. When playing music, I don't even need to crank it that loud and I can barely hear my passenger, its keeps all the noise trapped in the car, its pretty sweet.

The Fatmat was 200 for 100 square feet, which is pretty much what you need if you want to do the whole car. Here's the link on ebay

If you just wanted to do the doors or the whole car, i recommend this stuff, its cheap and works really well.

you don't want asphalt based stuff, you want Butyl.

Start with your doors. Then the rear quarters, they are nasty.

SDS will recommend 25% coverage, and it works. He also has the screamin "cockeyed tile" deal going on now ;)

If there are any left after I get back from vacation I'm buying a box or two with (hopefully) leftover funds.
Made with bits of real panther, so you know it's good.

    Chad,

ever hear of this "grace ultra" butyl based stuff? it's thin and needs to be doubled up but I hear its cheaper and just as good as the more expensive auto-specific stuff.

    or edead by elemental designs:

What's considered "cheap" these days? I'm considering doing my doors in the next few weeks and later on the spare tire area. (Hatch and rear license plate already done)

Can anyone throw out some sq footage/tile sizes and pricing?

The fatmat is a Butyl product. I used it back 4 years ago when I installed my system. 100 sf is more than enough to do the inside and outside skins of the doors, the rear panels, and floor and still have plenty left over to sell to your friends to break even on cost. Back when I got it it sees like it was 140 shipped for 100sf. I had enough left over to do a couple trunk lids for friends at 50 bucks a pop installed.
