You need it for cold starts in cold climates. It helps warm the intake air faster to get your car at normal idle. And seeing that you're from Colorado, I don't recommend doing the coolant line loop modification.
I replaced my IACV today, during the install i pulled off what I thought was a vacuum line but instead it was full of anti-freeze lol, GIANT mess, anyways i was kinda curious to why anti-freeze is routed to this sensor if anyone knows. Thanks.

Yeah I put everything back where they were it just puzzled me. Makes sense now
