good writeup, that board would serve as a good base to make a nice custom hatch enclosure.
but u must be concerned about weight. how much does that piece of wood weigh in itself?
looks nice :alien: i think im going to have try this

I just screwed my sub down to the mat and its fine.
Great work, I am sure you are much happier with an audio system and liner that stays put when driving.
WOW.... This isn't bad at all. I love ur write up. Im a do this for sure now. I hate that my sub moves arount the back to. But I think Im a reapulster the box to in red
Great idea for the red box! I might do the same... mine's looking a little dreary and worn out.
Looking back, I think that IF you have the time and the will, putting piano hinges in the corners rather than just using the carpet would be sweet. Check out Chads stereo install for a really sweet trunk! http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44046
i definitely did the same thing. cut the sides to make them fit and just glued them to the cloth. and voila the cloth is my "hinge". lol.
where did you get the red carpet? i couldnt find any. right now im just using some random red cloth that i found at joans.
It's from a stereo shop in the city I live in. They do a lot of custom work, and are pretty big in car audio.
This may help you; here's the manufacturer's website:

looks pretty cool.
I just did this to my ep but i used black carpets. Looks a lot better then the stock carpet all mangled up cause of the sub box. It did take some time to fit the wood in. For the side pieces i cut them off and wrapped them individually.
