hm...looking at the first picture...i think you had the clips facing the wrong way...theres two tabs vertically that are suppose to attache to the clips
but you had the clips horizontal....

Hmm, what do you mean in the first picture? I only shot them to show them lol they can't really be upside down while on a table :P

Are you sure about this? I tried many way and the bracket was held at the top by the "bigger" circle so can't push it further. I did try to put the clips toward the tabs but it put more pressure on it and I didn't want it to force...

eh it doesnt really matter just get it to stay on however you can lol.
as long as it works and doesnt look too odd.

actually now that i re read the post.

i think the cig light is suppose to have some give to it so it doesnt rip out your dash if you tried to remove an accessory plugged into it

much like how the stock 12v has some give to it.

again...it w/e its just mounting a damn cig lighter do it however makes you happeh! =D
